Technical Processes Used in Postural Molding This information is educational in nature and is not intended as medical advice. Anyone wishing to actively use this educational material for personal health improvement, is advised to consult with the qualified health care provider of their choice before attempting to use the information. This article has basic descriptions of three processes: 1. Postural Molding using the Fulcrum rehabilitation Program 1. Home Fulcrum Rehabilitation
Program:
Foam wedges of different sizes and shapes (fulcrums) are used to place your spine in a "normalized" arrangement as you lie on your back. This serves to start the process of re-modeling the fascia (ligaments and tendons) which have been deformed by years of supporting prior poor postural/structural body alignment. Once the curve restoration process has begun, a "PosturePulley" exerciser is used to strengthen the anterior neck muscles, which are almost universally too weak relative to the posterior neck muscles. Stretching, contracting and twisting movements are also performed while on the fulcrums. This alternating stretching and contraction of tissues helps to begin ligamentous and boney remodeling as well as beginning the process or re-establishing a more ideal balance of sensory signalling to the brain via the nervous system. Besides allowing fascial remodeling, this process also allows the nervous system to re-organize your whole body's muscular contraction pattern. Following the spinal changes which occur due an trauma (whether the trauma be physical, mental/emotional, or chemical in nature)-- many muscles which are normally involved in moving the joints of the body and didn't participate in maintaining static posture (Phasic muscles) -- take on postural muscle roles -- they stay partially contracted even though they should be at rest. So, instead of being nice and relaxed except when they were needed to move your arm, or your spine, etc., these muscles became and stayed contracted while you were in a static position. They did this because the abnormal posture needed different angles of muscular pull to support your body against gravity. If you try to correct the postural alignment solely through a process of manipulating the bones or spine, or muscles, or the ligaments --- you will get either a partial correction, or a temporary period of relief followed by a re-occurrence of the problem which you originally sought to correct --- or, there may even be some permanent symptomatic relief of the original problem, but, over time, other problems will replace the original symptoms.
For instance, consider dental Orthodontic treatment which is used to re-align the teeth in their bony arches. If the movement is done too quickly, the roots of the teeth actually become "eaten" away and foreshortened. They will never have a full supportive root structure once that happens. On the other hand, if care is used to keep the movement of the teeth slow and continuous over a long period of time, major miracles can be performed both in terms of improving a person's looks, and in improving their ability to chew and to eat their foods. Both the muscular and neurological aspects of postural control and support can react quickly and dramatically. But real postural change also requires that the ligaments and other fascial units also be reorganized. Like orthodontic tooth movement, this takes time. "Patience", as in the old saying, "is a virtue" --- and, leads to the greatest reward --- true comfort and health. To read a brief description of the Postural Molding Self-Care Workbook

There are two basic uses in the Pettibon Spinal Correction process -- one is to do the WC exercise to warmup the spine before doing postural molding exercises -- the WC is also used to improve the effectivenes of the Pettibon "head and body weighting" exercises which are used to help in the correction of forward head posture (repositioning of the head over the trunk of the body). The professional office model of the WC has a hydraulically operated height adjustment, and rotates 360 degrees on a universal type joint. The joint also allows 40 degrees of side to side tilting, and 35 degrees of front to back motion (flexion and extension.) This provides for your being able to develop all the normal movement ranges of the lower spinal area. The Home-Self-care Model -- is compact and light enough to carry from place to place. And, it provides the same type of movements as does the bigger professional model. The home-care model is rugged and well built and of course costs less than does the professional model
When performed correctly, the wobble chair exercises gently provides the same or similar motion as does horseback riding! The basic instructions for using the WC were designed to help restore motion to and thus improve function of the spine. And those instructions are great for that purpose. However, there is a way to use the WC that can help you go beyond that and to use the WC to help you re-coordinate muscle and spinal activities throughout the body. Used in this manner, the WC can help to improve full body flexibility and breathing as well as providing the benefits mentioned above. If you follow the special instructions that I have worked out for its use, the WC can be used to provide you with a quickie warmup of the whole body -- actually moving all the body's joints through their ranges of motion -- a great quick fix for tired or stiff muscles, etc. You can receive these instructions either by purchasing a WC through my website, or as a separate item if you already own a WC. To see a photo of the Professional model chair and to read some information from the creator of the Wobble Chair -- please activate the following link: PHOTO & Etc. The instructions are provided in the form of a combination package that includes both an audiotape and a self-care workbook-- the self-care workbook teaches you how to use your sense of internal body awareness to allow your body to move freely and comfortably. Once you have that process down, you can then apply it to the exercise sequence that is provided in the audiotape instructions. You may use this link to: Order a Wobble Chair 3. Repetitive Traction:
4. Reflex Drop Headpiece: The Reflex Drop Headpiece device is one of the the basic Pettibon spinal correction system "tools", for correcting the following problems:
-- which are the true problems that lead to the combined neurological, postural, musculo-skeletal problem that result in symptoms such as: pain, limited ranges of motion, "strange" tinglings, pins and needles feeings, numbness, etc in the extremities and/or trunk of the body, many headaches, etc. The drop headpiece is designed to allow the following specific reflex corrections of spinal fixation: Correction of extension fixation of the skull on the first cervical vertebra (C1, Atlas); extension fixation means that the skull does not nod forward to it's full normal range of motion when you move your chin towards your chest. It can also be used to correct the problem of not being able to extend (backbend) the lower cervical spine (these two problems often go together as the proper cervical spine curve (lordosis) is lost. Both these conditions are readily discovered by simple self-testing processes. The reflexive drop process can be self-performed with proper instruction, and an instructional video is included with each unit. This special drop headpiece is used by Chiropractors who are specially trained in the Pettibon Postural Correction process, and if you want to find out if there is a Pettibon practitioner near you, please call my office. The Pettibon website is in process of being created and when it is up and running Iwill post it on my website. If there is no Pettibon practitioner in your neighborhood, or you choose not to see one, complete instructions for self use of the reflexive drop headpiece are available -- for your self-use in conjunction with the health-care supervisor of your choice. To: Order Reflex Drop Headpiece It is important to remember that this postural correction system is a "SYSTEM" -- it has a series of interconnected parts that work together to create the necessary changes for postural improvement. Skipping any part of the protocol leads to half-baked results. The rewards are great -- feeling better -- moving more comfortably -- breathing easier and more fully -- being healthier. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE Postural correction can happen in just a few minutes the first time it is done -- although that is very rare! Some visible changes will usually become evident within a 90 day period if the routines are followed faithfully. Positive changes in how you feel will likely happen well before that point. Full correction of postural problems -- even with good in-office care commonly takes between 6 & 18 months. That's not too bad a thought however, because in this process the trip is as good (enjoyable) as is the destination
